Flight control tests at the UAS Karlsruhe

A new flight control algorithm is being developed at the Hochschule Karlsruhe and tested on a hexacopter.

Infrastructure-autonomous Shoe-mounted Indoor-Navigation

An Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), consisting of a triad of accelerometers and gyroscopes which are mounted on a shoe, are used to compute a continuous trajectory. The Navigation Solution is largely influenced by the errors of the MEMS-sensors. The error in position due to the double-integration quadratically increases over time which results in an unusable position estimation. Detecting the correct stilltime of the user, it is possible to correct the navigation state vector. This has also an effect on the quality of the orientation and position computation.

CeBIT 2013

5th to 9th March, Hannover Fair

CeBit is one of the world-leading hightech fairs and therefore it is a great platform for companies and organizations to present their new innovations and to get in contact. This year partner country was Poland and the guiding theme was "shareconomy", with a focus on cooperation and sharing of knowledge, ressources and experiences.

As in previous years the Institute of Applied Research of Hochschule Karlsruhe (HSKA, University of Applied Sciences), was participating and presented the NAVKA navigation concepts and the resulting products from our cooperation partners. Following the this-years guiding theme of sharing ressources, the IAF booth was integrated into the booth of "IntegrierteTelematik Systeme Baden-Württemberg e.V." (ITS), to represent Baden-Württemberg as innovative and cutting-edge location.

Innovative Electric Aircraft

Navigation and control systems are being developed at the Hochschule Karlsruhe – Technik und Wirtschaft for a new kind of manned aircraft, a purely electrically powered vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft by the e-volo team. The project receives 2 Mio Euro federal funds.

Six consortium members (including the Institute of Applied Research (IAF) at the Hochschule Karlsruhe) are working on the new aircraft - the so called volocopter. The consortium receives about 2 Mio Euro in funding over the next three years.

3rd milestone meeting at HSKA

The third milestone meeting of the RaD joint project “GNSS-supported lowcost multisensor systems for mobile platform navigation and object geo-referencing” took place at the University Karlsruhe on the 31st of July, 2012. This meeting comprised the reports of the consortium concerning the recent activities and results, and the coordination of further developments, cooperation and projects.
